A man died yesterday when his house in Skibbereen, Co Cork, was engulfed by flames. Mr Liam Lupton (31), single, was asleep in the house at North Street, early yesterday morning when the fire was noticed by passers-by. The flames spread quickly and units of the fire brigade service from Skibbereen, Bantry and Schull were unable to get into the building, which was almost destroyed. Fire-fighters could not enter the house until 9 a.m. when it was safe to remove the body of Mr Lupton. He was the son of a retired garda in west Cork.
In Dublin, Mr William Sherlock (60), single, who sustained severe burns in a house fire at Circular Road, Ballina, Co Mayo, on Saturday evening, has died at St James's Hospital. He was 60 and unmarried.
