Man dies following Waterford assault

A man injured in a serious assault that took place at Barrack Street in Waterford City on Saturday night has died.

A man injured in a serious assault that took place at Barrack Street in Waterford City on Saturday night has died.

A post mortem is to be conducted later today on Michael Corbett (51) who sustained severe head injuries in the assualt.

Martin Smith (49), Closegate, in Waterford city, appeared at a special sitting of Waterford District Court last night charged in connection with the assault of Mr Corbett.

He was arrested at Barrack Street at 12.53am on Sunday. 

A 29-year-old man, who has also been charged in relation to the assault, is to appear again at Waterford District Court this morning.
