A man was charged yesterday with the murder of an elderly farmer in Co Meath last year

A man was charged yesterday with the murder of an elderly farmer in Co Meath last year. Mr John Doyle (35), no fixed abode, was remanded in custody by Judge John Neilan at Tullamore District Court on charges related to an assault on two elderly brothers in their home at Castlejordan, Co Meath, in June of last year.

Mr Doyle was charged with the murder of Mr Patrick Logan on June 5th, 2000. He was also charged with assaulting Mr Peter Logan, causing him harm, and robbing Mr Peter Logan of £45 cash.

The accused was granted free legal aid and remanded to Cloverhill prison to appear at Granard District Court, Co Longford, tomorrow.
