A MAN was charged yesterday with the murder of an elderly psychiatric patient in the Grangegorman area of Dublin last March.Mr Dean Lyons (24), of Castlepark, Tallaght, is accused of murdering Ms Mary Callinan at Orchard View, Grangegorman, on March 6th. Ms Sylvia Shields was also found stabbed to death in the house. Mr Lyons, described as single and unemployed, had collar-length black hair and was dressed in a patterned blue jumper and jeans. His right arm was heavily plastered.Dublin District Court was told the man was arrested in the city centre on Saturday and brought to the Bridewell Garda station where, when charged by Sgt Liam Carolan about noon, he had nothing to say. The defendant told Judge Desmond Windle he was applying for legal aid and was assigned a solicitor, Mr Garrett Sheehan. He was remanded in custody to appear in court again today.
