A 22-year-old man has been charged with the murder of a father stabbed to death in front of his young daughter just hours after his partner gave birth to their son.

John Abbey (26) was found with knife wounds at a bus stop near a supermarket in West Croydon, south London, on Thursday evening. He was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Police charged Charles William Acquaah with the murder last night and he is due to appear before Croydon
magistrates later today.

Scotland Yard said Mr Abbey was a boxer from the Croydon area known to his friends as "King". A post mortem showed he died from a single stab wound to the heart.

Police are still questioning two other men arrested in connection with the stabbing.
