A Co Derry teenager (19) will today appear in court after being charged following a pipe bomb attack on a family home.

He is accused of causing an explosion and intimidation following the attack on a Catholic family of five at their home in the Articlave area of Coleraine. The man from Castlerock will appear before North Antrim magistrates sitting in Coleraine today.

Police described the bomb, which exploded yesterday morning, as sophisticated and potentially lethal. A mother, father and three children were at home when the device exploded, they said.

The bomb shattered a front window and peppered PVC panelling with shrapnel; a crater was left in the front garden.
