Man charged after fatal Co Longford crash

A man (20) was tonight charged with drink driving after a passenger died in car crash.

A man (20) was tonight charged with drink driving after a passenger died in car crash.

The car went out of control on Battery Road, Longford, at 12.30am yesterday, and Jaroslaw Debik, a 19-year old Polish passenger who lived at Roosky, Roscommon, was killed.

Four other Polish passengers and one Portuguese woman were in the car; two of them were taken to Mullingar hospital with serious injuries.

At Longford District Court, the driver (20) was remanded in custody to Castlerea Prison and ordered to appear again in court on May 10th.

Mr Debik was the fifth person to die on the roads in the last 24 hours. Those killed comprised two motorcyclists, two passengers and a pedestrian.
