Detectives were today questioning a man about the brutal murder of a Belfast schoolboy more than 30 years ago.
Brian McDermott (10) disappeared from a playground in the south of the city in September 1973. His mutilated torso and arm were dragged from the River Lagan close to a boat club almost a week later. No-one was ever caught for the killing.
Police today confirmed a suspect was being interviewed following a major reconstruction staged for the Crimewatchprogramme, to coincide with the 30th anniversary of the killing.
A spokeswoman said: "A 46-year-old man has been arrested and is currently assisting police with their inquiries. Detectives would like to take this opportunity to urge anyone who has any further information on this terrible crime to come forward."
The man was arrested at an undisclosed location in England at 7.45 a.m. today, police revealed.
It is understood he is being brought across to Belfast for further questioning by officers.
