Man arrested in connection with Monaghan hit-and-run

A man was arrested this morning in connection with a fatal hit-and-run accident in Co Monaghan overnight.

A man was arrested this morning in connection with a fatal hit-and-run accident in Co Monaghan overnight.

The body of 16-year-old Emma Markey was found at a roadside at Tullycorbett, near Braddocks at around 3.30 a.m.

It is understood she had been walking in the direction of Monaghan town when she was struck.

In a follow-up search this morning a man was arrested under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act at 8.40 a.m. am. He is now being questioned in Monaghan Garda station.

The car which is believed to have been involved in the incident has also been located and is under going a full forensic examination.
