An 18 year-old man has appeared in court in Derry today charged with murdering a musician whose body was recovered from the River Foyle last year.

Daniel John Young from Cornshell Fields, Ballyarnett, is charged with the murder of 62 year-old father of five, James Guthrie Gilchrist on September 28th last year.

A detective said he believed he could connect the defendant to the charge.

Mr Young, who denies the charge of murder, was remanded in custody to appear again via a video link on February 23rd.
