The man charged over the theft of paintings from the Beit collection at Russborough House, Co Wicklow, was remanded on bail at a Dublin court today.

Mr John Kearns (25) of Corrib Road, Terenure, was remanded at Clover Hill District Court in Ballyfermot this afternoon and is to appear before Naas District Court on February 5th.

He was charged in Naas last night over the robbery of the two paintings, said to be worth over €4 million, from the collection in June last year.

He is the first person to be charged over the theft.
