A Dubliner accused of shooting at two men in the city centre in 1998 has been acquitted by direction of Judge Patrick McCartan following legal argument.

Mr Sean Buckley (39), of Drimnagh, had pleaded not guilty at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to assault causing harm, intent to cause serious harm and unlawful possession of a firearm at Henry Street on July 25th, 1998.

Judge McCartan said the prosecution's case relied on the evidence of Mr Chad Byrne, an eyewitness. He said Mr Byrne only had a fleeting glance at the gunman and this did not match the requirements of the law.
