A MAN charged with the murders of two young women and two children who were stabbed to death at a house in Co Limerick has been further remanded in custody.

John Geary (31), Meadow Court, Newcastle West, but originally from Milford, Co Cork, is charged with the murder of Sarah (25), Amy (five months) and Reece Hines (three), and Sarah Brough (20) at Hazelgrove, Gortboy, Newcastle West, on November 15th last year.

He appeared before Newcastle West District Court yesterday, where the State applied for Mr Geary to be further remanded in custody.

During the brief hearing, Judge Mary O’Halloran was told the file on the murders had been sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions.

Garda Supt Joe Rowe said he was asking for Mr Geary to be further remanded in custody to Cloverhill Prison until next month.

Solicitor John Herbert said he had no objection to the request.

Judge Mary O’Halloran remanded him in custody until May 10th, when he is to appear before the same court.
