Man (33) remanded over Kerr killing

A 33-YEAR-OLD man has been remanded in custody in connection with the murder of Geoff Kerr in Co Antrim last week.

A 33-YEAR-OLD man has been remanded in custody in connection with the murder of Geoff Kerr in Co Antrim last week.

Darren Ivan Kernohan, with an address in Moss Drive, Antrim, was charged with killing Mr Kerr, a 60-year-old financial adviser, at his home in the Old Village area of Templepatrick last Monday night.

A senior police officer told the court the PSNI believed they could connect the accused with the killing.

The accused spoke only to confirm his name during the short hearing. He was remanded to appear by video link at Antrim Magistrates Court on May 26th.

Mr Kerr, who was also a member of the Ulster Unionist Party, was shot in the chest in the hallway of his home by two gunmen posing as takeaway food delivery staff.

Police are following a lead that the shooting resulted from an attempted armed robbery but turned into murder.

Mr Kerr’s wife, Sally, and the youngest of his four sons, were present at the scene of the murder. Four others arrested in connection with the investigation have now been released.

Ms Kerr and senior investigating officers have appealed for information about the killing.
