A 30-year-old man sustained serious head injuries during an incident in Carlow early yesterday.

A 30-year-old man sustained serious head injuries during an incident in Carlow early yesterday.

He was taken to St Luke’s General Hospital, Kilkenny and later removed to Beaumont Hospital.

A man in his 20s was arrested by gardaí yesterday morning in connection with what they called the “serious assault” which occurred on College Street in Carlow at about 3am.

He was detained under section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984, at Carlow Garda station. The man was later released without charge and gardaí said a file was being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.

Investigating gardaí appealed for witnesses, particularly anybody in the vicinity of College Street in and around 3am yesterday, to contact them.
