A 29-year old man has died following a three-car collision in Galway city early this morning.
The crash occurred on the Sean Mulvoy Road along the Headford Road to Cemetery cross route out of the city at about 8.45am this morning.
One of the drivers died at the scene. His body was taken to the mortuary of University College Hospital Galway
A male passenger in one of the other cars was taken to the same hospital with serious injuries.
Diversions are currently in place as the Sean Mulvoy Road is expected to remain closed until 4pm while a forensic investigation takes place.
The three cars involved in this morning's collision were a blue Honda Civic, a black Honda Civic and a blue Fiat Maria estate.
Anyone who saw these cars prior to, or at the time of, the collision is asked to contact gardaí at Galway on 091 538000.
In addition, there was a silver Nissan parked near to the scene which has since been removed. The driver of this vehicle has also been called upon to contact gardai.
