The High Court has issued an interim order restraining publication of an article concerning Dublin night-club operator Mr John Reynolds in a new magazine, Patrick, edited by former Irish Press Group director Mr Elio Malocco.

Mr Reynolds, The Cedars, Grove House, Milltown, Dublin, who operates The POD and the Red Box night clubs, claimed in an affidavit that the article was libellous and defamatory of him.

The interim order granted by Mr Justice O'Donovan is against Mr Malocco trading as Patrick, journalists Declan Murray and Frank White and publisher Peter Laur, all with an address at Post Office, Brighton Road, Foxrock, Co Dublin.

Mr Reynolds said the first issue of the magazine was intended for December/January 1998-1999. He claimed it contained allegations and accusations relating to him and his business which were completely untrue.

The article made references to a number of night clubs receiving Garda notification as to drug activity and conduct.

Mr Reynolds said it was true that he received notification as did 19 other night clubs operating in greater Dublin. In fact, that was part and parcel of an ongoing campaign supported by him and the gardai to ensure no drugs were sold in night clubs.

Mr Reynolds said this was an objective he wholeheartedly supported and he had given the gardai on every occasion such assistance as had been requested and such assistance as he could.
