Loyalists tonight organised a protest march from Tiger's Bay to York Road Police Station in Belfast to register their complaint at what they believe was heavy-handed police tactics.

A crowd of about 100 people, mainly women and children, marched down the road, staying away from flashpoint areas, to hand in a letter of protest.

Community worker Mr Eddie McClean, who took part in the rally, said: "I'm calling on police to start entering into dialogue with the community workers, to start working with us to resolve this problem."

Meanwhile, a community group formed by the Stormont Executive to tackle problems in north Belfast said its work was being hampered by the violence.
