A lorry driver this afternoon became the 200th person to die on Irish roads this year following a crash near Baltinglass, Co Wicklow.

The man, in his 30s, died after his lorry was in a collision with another lorry at Whiteside Lower just after 2 p.m.

The crash has caused severe traffic disruption.

The fatality rate for 2001 is slightly down on last year when 234 people were reported dead by the end of July.
