A night-time attack on a quarry which supplies the huge Corrib gas project in Co Mayo with rock and other construction material left a fleet of trucks immobilised.

Five lorries parked at Lennon’s Quarry, Bangor- Erris, had their tyres slashed and a hose on a hydraulically operated digger was severed. Gardaí are carrying out a forensic examination of the damaged vehicles. It is estimated that the damage runs into thousands of euro.

The lorries were being used to haul rock to the site at Glengad where the gas is due to come ashore.
