Two 17-year-olds have been remanded to St Patrick's Institution after being charged in connection with a fire in car that seriously injured two children in Limerick.

The youths - who cannot be named for legal reasons - each faced two charges of intentionally or recklessly causing serious harm contrary to Section Four of the Non Fatal Against The Persons Act 1987 at a special sitting of Limerick District Court this evening.

Judge Tom O'Donnell granted free legal aid and directed that both any medical treatment deemed necessary while in custody.

He also warned that the identit of the accused must not be revealed in print or photographs.

Millie Murray (6) and her brother Gavin (4) were seriously burned after a fire started in the back of their mother's car in the Limerick city estate of Moyross last Sunday.

Both remain in a serious condition at Our Lady's Hospital for Sick Children in Crumlin, Dublin.
