The hijackers of a Sudanese airliner that was forced to land in Libya surrendered today following negotiations with the Libyan authorities, state news agency Jana reported.
"The two hijackers were transported to one of the halls at Kufrah airport after giving themselves up," the Libyan news agency cited aviation authority head Mohamed Shlibek as saying.
The hijackers earlier freed all passengers aboard the plane but had kept six crew members hostage.
"We can confirm that all the plane passengers have been freeed by the hijackers," a top official from the Authority told reporters.
The Sudanese passenger plane with 87 passengers on board was hijacked yesterday after leaving war-torn Darfur and was forced to land in Libya. It had been bound for Khartoum from Nyala, the capital of South Darfur.
After it was commandeered, Egyptian authorities refused it permission to land and the plane changed course towards Libya, landing at Kufrah airplort last night, an oasis town in the country's southeast.
