Leinster 28 Newcastle Falcons 9

Leinster recorded their ninth consecutive win against Newcastle Falcons in the European Cup pool six game at Donnybrook tonight.

They had to dig deep and defend resolutely as Newcastle kept in touch through the boot of Johnny Wilkinson. In the end, it was Leinster’s pressure which forced mistakes and penalties from English side and they deservedly won by 19.

There was a try apiece for Gordan D’arcy and man-of-the-match Brian O’Driscoll. D’arcy’s was right out of the top draw 15 minutes into the first half. A break from outhalf Nathan Spooner opened the space up in behind the Newcastle backs. He fed O’Driscoll who timed his pass to perfection to put D’Arcy away in the corner.
