Riga - The Latvian Prime Minister, Mr Vilis Krishtopans, tendered his resignation yesterday amid criticism over lagging privatisation and economic reform, leaving his minority coalition scrambling for alternatives.
Mr Krishtopans, who took power after elections in October, said he acted after returning from abroad to find that coalition members had been holding what he called conspiratorial talks with opposition parties on several key issues.
Under the Latvian constitution, the government automatically loses power with the resignation of the prime minister but remains in a caretaker role until a new administration is formed.
