Workers who lost their jobs at Lagan Brick in Co Cavan have decided to accept an offer to attend talks at the Labour Relations Commission.

Siptu yesterday hoped management would a take part in the meeting on Friday “aimed at retaining maximum employment at the plant and securing satisfactory redundancy and severance terms for any workers that lose their jobs”.

The workers have been holding a 24-hour protest at the entrance to the construction material manufacturing plant against its sudden closure.

The workers were informed of the shut-down hours before the plant ceased operation on December 15th, Siptu said.

“The manner in which this closure was announced and the failure of management to agree satisfactory redundancy terms with the workers has been a massive blow to them and the local community,” Siptu organiser John Regan said.
