Kerry County Council voted unanimously yesterday to send a message of solidarity and support to residents along the Garvaghy Road on what was described as "the third year of their imprisonment".

Proposing the emergency motion, Sinn Fein councillor Mr Martin Ferris stressed he was being non-political. "I am proposing this on humanitarian grounds," he said.

Everyone was affected by what he described as "a very dangerous situation" because of the acts of "a lunatic element within loyalism who are intent on creating mayhem".
