Nairobi - President Daniel arap Moi yesterday dissolved Kenya's parliament in preparation for general elections expected to be held next month, writes David Orr.

Mr Moi's announcement was greeted with enthusiasm by his ruling Kanu party. But it was condemned by many opposition figures, who claim free and fair elections cannot be held until further reforms are implemented. More than 100 people have died in political violence since July.
