Michael Kelly kick-started a great day for the Irish at the World Amateur Championships at the Odyssey Arena in Belfast with victory over England's Danny Happe.
Kelly's body shots landed to great effect and the Irishman was always in control as Happe tried in vain to claim the initiative throughout the four rounds of their light-welterweight clash this afternoon.
Hard-working Kelly, with a tight defence, is now just one victory away from securing a medal, as is Irish team captain Jim Moore.
Welterweight Moore won his third bout in four days after a terrific struggle with Italian southpaw Lonard Bundu.
Moore showed great tenacity once more, keeping himself just ahead right up to the final bell as he landed with his solid, straight blows.
The Irish luck was in when light-flyweight John Paul Kinsella edged out Bulgarian Salim Alimov, 14-13 while light-heavyweight Alan Reynolds had to come from behind to defeat Turkey's Yildirim Tarhan.
Reynolds was hurt in the first but managed to recover and produce some great work in the third and fourth rounds to take a 15-13 verdict.
