Keaveney to represent Ireland in Amsterdam after Egan Trophy win

THE Schiphol international bridge tournament will be played in Amsterdam on June 22nd-23rd. Ireland will be represented, by Tomas Hanlon, Dr H. McGann, Rory Timlin, and Dr G.M. Keaveney.

The Irish Bridge Union's all Ireland team championship for the Egan Trophy has an agreed representation of four teams from the Contract Bridge Association of Ireland, and two from the Northern Ireland Bridge Union. The event, decided in Newcastle, Co Down, was won by Dr G.M. Keaveney, the Rev E. Glynn R Brennan and P. Scannell CBAI. Runners up were R. O'Keeffe T Garvey, J. Kulchycky, and H. Carroll (CBAI). Third came I Lindsay, D. Johnson, A.T.R. Anderson, and D. Greenwood.

The international, Niall Toibin, has been appointed nonplaying captain of the IBU open team which will compete in the World Olympiad in Rhodes next October.

The annual general meeting of the CBAI will be held in the Shamrock Lodge Hotel, Athlone, on June 22nd. Mrs Maisie Cooper (Limerick), nominated by the North Munster Region, will assume the office of president in succession to Mr Denis Dillon (Cork).

There are open pairs every Tuesday (7.30 pm.) in the Bankers' Club, St Stephen's Green, Dublin.

Every Wednesday, and Friday, at 10 a.m., the Four Seasons Club runs open competitions in the Victor Hotel, Rochestown Avenue, Dun Laoghaire. At the same venue each Tuesday (7.30 p.m.) the Kill O the Grange Club also runs open tournaments. If a partner is required for any of those Dun Laoghaire events one should contact 01-2857853.

Throughout the summer, each Monday to Friday, there will be open pairs at 8 p.m. in the Galway Centre on St Mary's Road.
