A 29-year-old man is to be tried by judge and jury after he appeared in court accused of engaging in sex acts with a minor and acting in a manner likely to pervert the course of justice .

The man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, appeared before Fermoy District Court yesterday on two counts of engaging in a sexual act with a child under the age of 17 at a location in Co Cork on January 19th, 2011, and between February 2nd and 3rd, 2011.

The man, who spoke only to confirm his identity, also faces a third count that he did engage in an act that had a tendency to pervert the course of justice on March 6th, 2011.

Judge Brian Sheridan ordered that no details should be published that would identify either the injured party or the accused man and he remanded the accused to appear again on February 22nd.
