Swimming: Irish records continued to tumble on the second day of the European Short Course Swimming Championships at the Kantrida Indoor Swimming Complex in Rijeka, Croatia today.

Five national records were broken in today's heats. Donal O'Neill was the first Irish swimmer into the water and broke his own 2004 Irish senior record with a time of 25.05 seconds in the men's 50metre backstroke.

Barry Murphy, who was eighth in yesterday's 50metre freestyle final, established another Irish record in today's 100metre freestyle heats. The Dublin swimmer shaved three-tenths of a second of his previous record with a time of 48.69.

Conor Leaney set a new Irish junior record (50.02) in the same event, adding to his 50metre freestyle junior record from yesterday.

The Irish quartet of Fiona Doyle, Aisling Cooney, Claire Dawson and Melanie Nocher kept the momentum going when they clocked a new record in the women's 4x50metre freestyle team relay with their time of 1.42.31.

Grainne Murphy set a new Irish junior and senior record with her time of 8.40.48 in the women's 800m freestyle, a record previously held by Michelle Smith (8.44.06). Niamh O'Sullivan swam in a time of 8.45.08 in the same race.

In the women's 200m breaststroke Fiona Doyle clocked 2:33.74 - just outside her personal best.
