Services sector employees saw an average 4 per cent rise in their earnings last year, according to data released today by the Central Statistics Office.

It showed that weekly earnings in distribution and business services grew to €608.73 in December 2003 in firms with more than five employees.

The highest weekly earnings were in the postal and telecommunications sub-sector with average weekly wages of €800.53 by the end of 2003.

Employees working in accommodation and catering were among the lowest paid with avenge weekly earnings of €380.44.
