The provincial of the Irish Jesuits Fr John Dardis has been appointed president of the Jesuit conference of European provincials.

Fr Dardis been provincial in Ireland since 2004 and ends his term in July. He will take up his new post in Europe in October.

“It is a critical time in Europe. The Jesuit provinces want to work together to deal with the common problems we have . . . I feel privileged to be asked to play a role in helping Jesuit provinces tackle these issues together.”

There are six Jesuit conferences of provincials worldwide: Latin America and the Caribbean, the United States, Europe, Africa and Madagascar, South Asia, East Asia and Oceania.
