Mapflow, the Dublin-based spatial technology company, is to provide the world’s first live demonstration of location based service (LBS) over multimedia messaging service (MMS) at the 3GSM world congress in Cannes next week.
MMS brings applications such as e-mail, video and audio download, animated graphics and electronic card and picture exchange to mobile device users. LBS provides information and functionality based on the user's position.
The MMS location service to be demonstrated by Mapflow, and its partner Logica will provide users with animated colour map images that zoom in to show a precise location. Text information synchronized with the message gives information about that location.
Maplfow said it believes MMS will make location service available to the public at large and is likely to be one of the largest growth areas in the technology industry over the next five years.
"This [will be] the world's first live demonstration of a location sensitive service delivered over multimedia messaging" said Mr Gerry McKenna, CEO of Logica Mobile Networks.
"MMS is expected to be one of the biggest growth areas in mobility over the next few years, overtaking standard Short Message Service (SMS). This simple location service demonstrates why."
Founded in 1997, Maflow has experienced triple digit revenue growth every year with strong growth in Irish and UK markets, and, more recently, other European markets.
