A man has died following a multi-vehicle collision in Co Louth.
The deceased, a local man (36), was in one of three vehicles involved in the crash at Monasterboice at 6.30am. It is understood road conditions at the time were poor.
The crash happened on the old Drogheda to Dundalk road, the old N1 to Belfast between the Pope’s Cross and the Monasterboice Inn. This road is currently closed and diversions are in place.
The road remains sealed off and diversions are in place.
Gardai in Drogheda are appealing for witnesses who may have been on the road between 5.45am and 6.30am to contact them on 041 9874200, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any Garda station.
Separately, a man has died in Castleblaney, Co Monaghan, after being struck by a truck during the night.
The incident occured at around 2am at Drumquill, on the Castleblaney to Annyalla road (old N2).
The 24-year-old pedestrian was fatally injured and pronounced dead at the scene, where his body remained this morning. The lorry driver was uninjured in the collision.
The road was closed and diversions put in place to facilitate a forensic collision examination.
