Man in critical condition after Portlaoise stabbing

A man is in a critical condition after he was stabbed during an attack in Co Laois.

The incident happened at Coote Street, Portlaoise, at about 4am on Tuesday morning.

A man in is 30s was discovered on the road with stab injuries to the abdomen.

He was taken to Midlands Regional Hospital and was then transferred to St Vincent's in Dublin where he remains in a critical condition.

The scene was preserved for a technical examination and gardaí have asked anyone with information or anyone who was in the Coote Street area between 3.30am and 4.30am to contact Portlaoise Garda Station on 057 - 8674100, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666111 or any Garda Station.
