Gardaí investigate Dublin cash-in-transit robbery

Gardaí are investigating a cash-in-transit robbery in Dublin in which three suspects escaped with a five-figure sum of money.

The incident took place in Blanchardstown at about 3pm today when a security guard was bringing a cash deposit to an AIB cash machine. He was approached by two men, one of whom was carrying a handgun.

Gardaí said there were no injuries as a result of the robbery, and that no shots were fired. The men escaped in a nearby getaway vehicle.

The car, a blue Hyundai, sped from the scene and was later found burning in the Hollystown area.

It is understood there was some cash in the vehicle when the fire brigade attended the scene to extinguish the blaze.

Local Fianna Fáil councillor David McGuinness said this was the third such incident in the area in two days.

“This is getting completely out of hand. Anybody reading the news lately will think Dublin west is more like the wild west,” he said.

“Garda resources have been slashed, Garda numbers have been slashed and criminals clearly do not fear the law or our criminal justice system.”
