Irish jobs are already under threat as the UK prepares to embark on its exit from the European Union, as business group Ibec points to a "full-blown currency crisis" and says "an urgent, targeted national response is essential".

2. Politician arrested three times over bank holiday weekend

A politician was arrested three times by gardaí over the bank holiday weekend, for being drunk and disorderly and for suspected drink-driving, while attending the Indiependence Festival in Mitchelstown, Co Cork.

3. Syrian rebels attempt to break Aleppo siege

A major offensive by Syrian insurgents to break the government siege of opposition-held quarters of Aleppo appeared to have stalled last night, as the battle for control of the city entered a key phase.

4. Irish potato prices second-highest in Europe
