Ireland comes third last in Eurovision

Ireland came a disappointing third last in the Eurovision Song Contest in Denmark last night

Ireland came a disappointing third last in the Eurovision Song Contest in Denmark last night. Outsiders Estonia won the contest for the first time with their song "Everybody".

Dublin man Gary O’Shaugnessy’s "Without Your Love" received only six points meaning Ireland will not be taking part in next year’s competition. Only the top 15 in this year's Eurovision qualify for next year.

Our nearest neighbours, the UK, managed to scrape through to the 2002 event, coming 15th with a total of 28 points.

This year 23 countries took part in the contest staged in Copenhagen, Denmark in front of a live audience of more than 40,000.

An estimated 200 million people in 30 countries were expected to have watched the contest on TV.
