An inquest into the death of a Dublin gangland figure was adjourned yesterday when two vital witnesses failed to attend Dublin City Coroner's Court.

Mr Gerard Lee (31), of Seabury Park, Malahide, Co Dublin, was shot dead at a house party at Ferrycarrig Park, Coolock, on March 9th, 1996, his 31st birthday.

His wife, Ms Linda Lee, and another witness, Ms Christina Nally, failed to turn up for the hearing despite being served with witness summonses by gardai.

At an earlier hearing, Ms Lee refused to verify her deposition to the court, and the Dublin City Coroner, Dr Brian Farrell, adjourned the inquest until yesterday.

Dr Farrell asked gardai to ascertain why the witnesses were not available.

The former assistant State pathologist, Dr Margaret Bolster, told the inquest that Lee suffered two gunshot wounds.
