GAA: Kerry must wait until the end of next week before learning if Eoin Brosnan is available for the All-Ireland football final with Dublin after the centre half back went over on an ankle in training. Séamus Scanlon is also an injury concern for the Kingdom.
Brosnan twisted an ankle during training at Fitzgerald Stadium last night and manager Jack O’Connor confirmed this morning that the defender faces a race against time to recover for next Sunday’s showpiece at Croke Park.
"We'll possibly know towards the end of next week,” O’Connor told reporters during Kerry’s open training session today. “He has been an important player for us this year and it would be a pity if he missed out. We'll wait and see."
Scanlon was released from hospital in Limerick yesterday where it is understood he had been treated for the recurrence of a benign cyst on his neck.
The problem first materialised following this year’s championship opener against Tipperary in May and surgeons told him at the time that it would eventually require surgery. It is believed the cyst became infected last week and Scanlon was admitted to hospital last Wednesday morning to have it drained and treated.
Scanlon missed last weekend’s two-day training camp at Fota in Cork and was unavailable for all training sessions over the past week. He also missed last night’s A v B encounter which was played behind closed doors in Killarney.
