The Ireland management team are confident that Niall Buckley and Seán Óg de Paor will be fit in time for Friday’s opening test of the International Rules series against Australia.

The pair were injured during Ireland’s resounding 102-10 victory over an Australian Institute of Sport selection at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) earlier today.

Buckley, the giant Kildare midfielder, sustained a slight hamstring strain while Galway wing back De Paor aggravated an old calf muscle injury.

Ireland captain Anthony Tohill was in fine form ahead of Friday’s duel with the Aussies. He bagged two goals in today’s practice game. Donegal sharp shooter Brendan Devenney, however, stole the show with a personal haul of 20 points.

Brian McEniff’s side will train at the Junction Oval on Wednesday morning (late Tuesday night, Irish time) before training under lights at the MCG later that evening (early Wednesday morning, Irish time). A light session will then be held at the MCG on Thursday before Friday’s first test match.
