Taliban mullah reported dead 'alive and well'

AFGHANISTAN - Taliban commander Mullah Brother said yesterday he was "alive and well", more than two weeks after the Afghan government announced he had been killed.

Brother served as a top military commander for the Taliban government until it was driven from power in 2001, and is a member of the movement's leadership council, which is led by fugitive leader Mullah Mohammad Omar. - (Reuters)

Simpson quizzed over robbery

LOS ANGELES - Las Vegas police questioned OJ Simpson after a memorabilia dealer told them the former football star and murder defendant robbed him at gunpoint in a Las Vegas casino hotel room, police and other sources said yesterday.

Simpson was questioned about Thursday night's hotel room confrontation but was not taken into custody, a Las Vegas police spokeswoman said.

Actor sentenced in child porn case

LONDON - Chris Langham, the Bafta-winning comedy actor, was last night sentenced to 10 months in prison for downloading pictures and videos of child abuse on to his home computer.

The 58-year-old actor was convicted last month of 15 counts of making an indecent photograph of a child, following a three-week trial. - (Guardian service)

Son of fugitive Karadzic held

BELGRADE - Serb police yesterday detained the son of the fugitive Bosnian Serb wartime leader, Radovan Karadzic, for questioning related to the hunt for his father, who is wanted for genocide.

Radovan Karadzic has been on the run for a decade.

Karadzic family sources said Aleksandar Karadzic was taken into custody in the Serbian capital, where the family owns an apartment. - (Reuters)

Bomb found under Spanish police car

MADRID - Spanish police found a crude unexploded bomb underneath one of their patrol cars in the Basque Country town of Andoain yesterday, police said.

The simple device, made up of a bottle of inflammable liquid and a firework rocket, was detected by municipal rubbish collectors, it was reported by local media.
