IDA Ireland has opened its first office in China.

IDA Ireland has opened its first office in China.

The Shanghai office, which was opened by the Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment Michéal Martin today, will help Chinese companies to target the European market.

Speaking today, Gus Jones, director of IDA Ireland, China, said he was confident the office was the beginning of a "win-win partnership" matching Irish capabilities and talents with Chinese investors.

The Minister said the Irish economy was much admired internationally.

"The Irish economy has performed very strongly over the past number of years and is much admired internationally. The level of foreign direct investment in Ireland is proportionately one of the highest in the world," he said.

"Today, over 1,200 overseas companies have substantial international operations in Ireland. These include many of the leading companies in information technology and communications, life sciences, international services, and financial services," Mr Martin added.

The IDA also has offices in Taipei, Seoul and Toyko.
