The Independent Commission for Police Complaints (ICPC) has been asked to oversee an investigation into the circumstances in which police fired three shots at a speeding car in Belfast early yesterday.

Police say the shots were fired after the car tried to run down a member of an RUC patrol at Berwick Road in Ardoyne at 6 a.m. yesterday. The car was later found abandoned at Holmdene Gardens, Ardoyne. One person was arrested.

The ICPC was called in to oversee the investigations on the instructions of the RUC.
