Andrew Boyd, the Belfast socialist, writer, historian and journalist, has died aged 90.

Andrew Boyd, the Belfast socialist, writer, historian and journalist, has died aged 90.

Mr Boyd, author of several books and pamphlets, wrote one of the most influential books at the start of the troubles, outlining the North’s long history of sectarian turmoil.

His work, Holy War in Belfast,looking back on the frequent outbreaks of communal violence in the city appeared in August 1969, the month when the modern Troubles flared. His funeral takes place at Roselawn crematorium on Friday.
