OSLO - A Palestinian hijacker who commandeered a Bulgarian plane from Varna to Oslo with eight crew members on board surrendered peacefully to police and has requested political asylum, officials said yesterday.

The man, who is believed to be 35-year-old Mr Nadir Abdullah but whose name has not been confirmed, surrendered almost one hour after the Tupolev 154 landed at the Gardermoen airport some 25 miles north of Oslo.
