Britain: Former British prime minister Sir Edward Heath was hailed yesterday as a man of integrity in seeking out truth and turning it into action.

This accolade was delivered by former foreign secretary Lord Hurd at a service of thanksgiving for the life and work of the former Tory prime minister in a packed Westminster Abbey in London.

Sir Edward died on July 17th aged 89. He had retired from the Commons in 2001 after around half a century as an MP.

Nearly 2,000 people gathered in the abbey to pay tribute to the man who took Britain into Europe.
