London - Mental health workers in Southampton were cleared of blame yesterday after taking nearly two hours to respond to a call for help from a woman who was later found battered to death by her schizophrenic son. An independent report concluded that it was "unlikely" Patricia Eske's life would have been saved if they had responded differently.

The attack happened the day after a psychiatrist and social worker had decided it was not necessary to have Danny Eske (23) sectioned under the Mental Health Act.
