London - Campaigners for the decriminalisation of cannabis openly smoked the drug in front of police officers yesterday as part of a nationwide day of protest. Hash cakes and cannabis resin were handed out to a crowd of more than 300 people at Hyde Park. The "National Turn Yourself In Day" protest marked the 69th anniversary of legislation to ban cannabis and came on the day the Independent on Sunday became the first British national newspaper to campaign for decriminalisation.
